Building Systems to Improve Democracy with Data

The Lanka Data Foundation is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to building open source software platforms that enable transparency, accountability and oversight of public data. Through open data platforms, it helps the public to collect, connect and make data available. It aims to empower citizens and organizations to access and use public data towards information democracy.

Without open information, democracies are unable to reach their promised potential, as different groups of society face information asymmetries. Further, digital identities and digitalization in general, can exacerbate these asymmetries.

The Lanka Data Foundation will distill data into information, to knowledge and to wisdom to help the population better understand the world around them. In this way, it aims to bring the power of democracy back to citizenship. As a Sri Lankan organization, we are also building an Information Hub for Sri Lankan people.
